Questions parents ask
What does the Phonic Book teach?
The sounds that letters make (phonics), from the first letter sounds to blending them into words. Every letter of the alphabet has a talking story, a lesson and games that sort sounds and build words.
What age is it for?
Roughly ages 3 to 6: nursery, kindergarten and class 1. Any child who is still learning to read letter sounds will find an easy place to start, and can replay favourite stories as often as they like.
Does it need internet?
After the first load it works fully offline. On a phone or tablet you can add it to the home screen from the browser menu, and it opens like any other app.
How do I see my child's progress?
Right here. Hold the button at the top of this page for two seconds to open the grown-up view: what your child can already do, what they are practising, and which sounds need a little help.
Is my child's data collected?
No. There is no account, no server and no analytics: progress is stored only on this device, in the browser. Closing the app changes nothing, and nothing is ever uploaded.
How can I help at home?
Sit together for about ten minutes a day. Say the letter sounds (mm, not em) while reading together, let your child tap any word they stumble on to hear it read aloud, and once they know a story let them read it to you. Little and often beats long sessions.
