What is the NCO exam?

The NCO, short for National Cyber Olympiad, is a computers and information-technology competition run by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). Children answer a multiple-choice paper in their own school that mixes computer knowledge with logical reasoning.

Who runs the NCO?

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), the New Delhi non-profit behind the IMO, IEO and IGKO. Registration normally happens through the school.

What does the NCO test?

Computers and IT: parts of a computer, how software works, the internet and how to stay safe on it, plus a logical reasoning section and an Achievers Section whose questions carry more marks. The syllabus follows what children already learn in school computer classes, stretched one step further.

What is the paper pattern?

Multiple choice only, in English, 60 minutes: 35 questions for classes 1 to 4 and 50 for classes 5 to 10. There is no negative marking.

How should my child prepare?

Reasoning puzzles and hands-on computer knowledge beat memorising definitions. The aliensbrain kids Practice Hall cyber topics are free for classes 1 to 10, from parts of a computer to internet safety, with fresh questions on every attempt.
