What is the NSTSE exam?
NSTSE stands for National Level Science Talent Search Examination. It is run by the Unified Council, Hyderabad, and taken by children from class 1 upwards. What makes it different from most competitions: it is diagnostic, designed to show how well a child has really understood maths and science concepts.
Who runs the NSTSE?
The Unified Council, an assessment organisation based in Hyderabad. One naming trap: the NSTSE is not the NTSE. The NTSE is a separate scholarship exam run by NCERT; the NSTSE is the Unified Council exam. Different organisers, different exams.
Who can appear?
Children from class 1 to class 12, through schools or individual registration. The paper is in English.
What is in the paper?
Multiple-choice questions on the school syllabus, weighted towards understanding rather than recall. Classes 1 to 4 answer 40 questions on mathematics and science. Classes 5 to 10 answer 60 questions on mathematics, science and critical thinking. After the exam, families receive a diagnostic report that breaks down performance topic by topic.
Why do parents choose the NSTSE?
Because the point is the feedback, not only the rank. The report shows strong and weak areas compared with other children, which makes the next step of preparation obvious: strengthen the weak topics, keep the strong ones warm.
How should my child prepare?
Concept by concept, with questions that explain themselves. The aliensbrain kids Practice Hall science topics are free for classes 1 to 10, each with an explanation after every answer in classes 4 to 10 and a review bank that brings back whatever was missed.
